This test is for the eligibility determination of transplant donors of blood and blood components and human cells, tissues and cellular tissue based products (HCT/Ps).

This test is not intended to be used for routine clinical or diagnostic evaluation.

Immediately after collection, mix tube thoroughly by gentle inversion, 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting

  

Lavender (EDTA), 4 mL tube X 2

  
EDTA plasma
  

If the EDTA whole blood sample will not reach the testing laboratory within 72 hours, a plasma sample must be submitted:

  1. Spin within 72 hours of sample collection
  2. Transfer plasma to a False bottom plasma/serum transport vial/tube (AHL), labelled as EDTA plasma

OFF HOURS:  Place EDTA tube in the Send Outs refrigerator bucket for day shift to process.

  
  

Whole blood:

Refrigerated (preferred) – 72 hours

Ambient – 48 hours

EDTA plasma:

Refrigerated (preferred) – 12 days

Ambient – 72 hours

Frozen - 1 year

Freeze/thaw cycles - stable x3
