Serum 7AlphaC4 is a surrogate measure of stool bile acids (BA) and elevated levels may be diagnostic for bile acid malabsorption (BAM), also known as bile acid diarrhea (BAD)

  

Please note that this 7AlphaC4 test is for Bile Acid Malabsorption/Diarrhea. For cholestasis of pregnancy, Bile Acids, Fractionated and Total, LC/MS-MS [503640] is a different test.

  

Sample collection in the morning after overnight fast is recommended.

Immediately following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot
  2. Spin  within two (2) hours of sample collection
  3. Transfer serum to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum
  4. Freeze
  
EDTA plasma; Heparin plasma
