• Reflex criteria:
o If wheat ≥ 0.10 kU/L with gliadin and Tr1 a 19 both < 0.10 kU/L, Tri a 14 (wheat nsLTP) will be performed at additional charge.
o If Tri a 14 < 0.10 kU/L, Phl p 12 (Timothy grass profilin) will be performed at additional charge.
o If Phl p 12 < 0.10 kU/L, Cross-reactive Carbohydrate Determinant (CCD) will be performed at additional charge.

This test supports the diagnosis of wheat allergy by detection of sIgE antibodies to whole wheat extract and individual allergenic components.

Some wheat component IgE tests are available for clinical use. Tests for other components are not yet available for clinical use and cannot be collected, ordered, or sent through Allina Health Laboratory. Please see the lists below for details.

Wheat components that are available for clinical use:

  • Wheat IgE
Complete allergen, first line test, includes glutenins and gliadins.

Second tier component tests that may be ordered:

  • Gluten, IgE
Detects IgE antibodies to gliadin and glutelin proteins in the gluten complex. Other names for gluten are: Tri a Gluten, Gliadin, Gamma-Gliadin, Omega-gliadin. Gluten IgE antibodies are associated with food allergy and food-dependant exercise-induced asthma or anaphylaxis.

  • Gliadin, IgE
Detects IgE antibodies to alpha, beta, gamma, and omega gliadins. Gliadin IgE antibodies are associated with food allergy and systemic allergic reactions including Wheat Dependent Exercise-Induced Anaphylaxis (WDEIA).

Wheat component tests that are not yet available for clinical use and cannot be collected, ordered, or sent through Allina Health Laboratory:

  • Lipid transfer proteins,IgE. Other names for this allergen are LTP, LTP Tri a 14, Tri a 14: Not yet available for clinical use.
  • Omega 5 gliadin, IgE. Other names for this allergen are: Tri a 19: Not yet available for clinical use.
