  • Confirm the diagnosis of carotenoderma
  • Detect fat malabsorption; depressed carotene levels may be found in cases of steatorrhea.

Immediately following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
  3. Transrer serum to an Amber transfer vial/tube - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum
  4. Protect from light

If amber tubes are unavailable, cover standard transport tube completely, top and bottom, with aluminum foil and secure with tape
