Qualitative detection of HSV-1 and/or HSV-2 from lesion specimens. 

Test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of HSV-1 and/or HSV-2 infections in symptomatic patients presenting with lesions consistent with HSV 1/2.

  
  • The HSV 1/2 assay is not intended for use with cerebrospinal fluid or for prenatal screening.
  • Reliable results are dependent on adequate specimen collection, transport, storage, and processing.
  • Assay has not been validated for use with patient-collected lesion specimens.
  
Swab of lesion
  
  1. Partially open package and remove swab. Hold the swab at the score line. If the soft tip is touched, laid down, or dropped discard the swab and get a new collection kit.
  2. Unroof lesion if needed.
  3. Vigorously swab the base of the lesion to absorb fluid, be careful to not draw blood.
  4. Unscrew tube cap taking care to not spill contents.
  5. Place swab in tube and break shaft at the score line against the edge of the tube. Discard top portion of shaft.
  6. Tightly screw cap back onto tube and send to lab.
