  • Useful in the diagnosis of carcinoid tumors
  • An adjunct in the diagnosis of other neuroendocrine tumors, including pheochromocytomas, medullary thyroid carcinomas, functioning and nonfunctioning islet cell and gastrointestinal amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation tumors, and pituitary adenomas
  

Proton pump inhibitor drugs should be discontinued for at least 2 weeks before collection

Immediately following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
  3. Transfer serum to a Screw cap transfer vial/tube (Mayo T914), labelled as serum
