Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), quantitative, DNA by Real-time PCR

This test is intended to be used for the quantitative detection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA and as an aid in the diagnosis and management of EBV infections.

Quantitative range is 35 IU/mL to 100,000,000 IU/mL

EDTA plasma

1.0 mL

0.5 mL

Immediatley following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gentle inverting 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting

  1. Centrifuge specimen within 24 hours of collection
  2. Transfer plasma to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as EDTA plasma
  3. Freeze

Frozen (preferred) - 6 months

Freeze/thaw cycles - stable x 4

Refrigerated - 8 days

Ambient - 48 hours

  • Quantity not sufficient for analysis
  • Gross specimen contamination
  • Specimen too old
  • Leaking or broken tube
  • PCR testing cannot be added on to a sample that has been opened and/or used for other testing. If the sample has already been used for testing, a new specimen will need to be collected.
