Evaluate diabetic control, reflecting diabetic control over a shorter time period (2-3 weeks) than that represented by hemoglobin A(1c) (4-8 weeks). Indicated as an index of longer-term control than glucose levels, especially in diabetic subjects with abnormal hemoglobins and in type 1 diabetes in children.

Immediatley following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  

1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
2. Spin within 45 minutes of sample collection

  

Gold serum separator (SST) tube

Red serum vial/tube, 5 mL

Lavender (EDTA), 4mL

Dk green heparin (Li or Na), no gel

 

 

  

Red:

  1. Allow sample to clot
  2. Spin within 45 minutes of sample collection
  3. Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum

Dk green/Lavender:

  1. Spin within 45 minutes of sample collection
  2. Transfer plasma to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as the appropriate plasma type
