  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • Myogenin has been detected in the majority of routinely processed rhabdomyosarcomas and Wilms tumors
  • Myogenin is useful in a panel of immunostains (or frozen and/or paraffin sections) to evaluate small blue round cell tumors and poorly differentiated sarcomas
  • No immunoreactivity has been observed in Ewing's sarcoma/pPNET or in neuroblastomas
  • Myogenin will stain the nuclei of myoblasts from human fetal limbs, however no reactivity is observed in adult skeletal muscle1
  • Myogenin has not stained leiomyosarcoma, liposarcoma, alveolar soft part sarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, synovial sarcoma and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in the small number of reported cases 2

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • Myogenin is a member of a family of myogenic regulatory proteins which includes MyoD, myf5 and MRF4
  • There genes encode transcription factors essential for muscle development
  • Expression of Myogenin is restricted to cells of skeletal muscle origin
  • Nuclear expression of myogenin is inversely related to the degree of cellular differentiation of rhabdomyosarcoma tumor cells1

 Staining pattern

  • Nuclear staining only
  • Regional staining pattern is common
