Screening for mast cell activation disorders including systemic mastocytosis

  

Patients taking aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may have decreased concentrations of prostaglandin F2 alpha. If possible, discontinue for 2 weeks or 72 hours, respectively, prior to collecting a specimen.

1. Collect urine for 24 hours.

2. Refrigerate specimen during collection, and transport specimen refrigerated.

How to collect a 24 hr urine sample

  
  1. Record total volume
  2. Mix well
  3. Transfer 4.0 mL of urine to a Mayo Screw Cap Transfer Vial (T465)
  4. Refrigerate.
  

Screw cap transfer vial/tube (Mayo T914) - preferred

24 hr urine container - acceptable
