LAB12376

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • Use in a panel for neuroendocrine tumors
  • Other neuroendocrine markers include chromogranin, Leu-7 (and NSE)
  • Synaptophysin is more specific than NSE and has not been detected in non-neuroendocrine cells
  • Synaptophysin is usually used in combination with chromogranin to increase the sensitivity

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Mo - Fr

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • Synaptophysin is a glycoprotein present in pre-synaptic vesicles of neurons, and in neurosecretory granules of neuroendocrine cells

Staining pattern

  • Diffuse granular cytoplasmic-based staining in neuroendocrine cells
  • Punctate cytoplasmic-based staining in neurons
