The diagnosis of past exposure to hepatitis E virus.

Immediately following collection, thoroughly mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
  3. Transfer serum to a Screw cap transfer vial/tube (Mayo T914), labelled as serum
  4. Freeze

A negative result does not exclude the presence of recent hepatitis E infection (<2 months duration), especially if immunocompromised patients. Repeat testing for anti-hepatitis E virus (HEV) IgM and anti-HEV IgG in 1 to 2 months is recommended for diagnosis of recent hepatitis E.
