- Diagnosis of homozygous and heterozygous fibrinogen deficiency as well as dysfibrinogenemia
- Diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation
- One (1) to three (3) fibrinogen levels can be used to assess the effectiveness of thrombolytic therapy

EDTA plasma

Immediatley following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gently inverting 8 - 10, times to prevent clotting
- Spin
- Transfer plasma to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as EDTA plasma
- Freeze within 24 hours of sample collection
Sodium citrate (Na cit) plasma (3.2%)
Immediatley following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gentle inverting 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
- Spin
- Transfer plasma to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as Na cit plasma
- Freeze within 24 hours of sample collection
Frozen (preferred) - 1 year
Refrigerated - 8 days
