This assay is a quantitative method for measuring the percentage concentration of Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) in blood. The measurement of Hemoglobin A1C concentration is recommended for monitoring the long-term blood glucose of persons with diabetes.

Hemoglobin A1C is formed by the non-enzymatic glycation of the N-terminus of the Beta-chain of Hemoglobin AO. The level of Hemoglobin A1c is proportional to the level of glucose the blood over a period of approximately two months. Hgb A1C is accepted as an indicator of the mean daily blood glucose concentration of the preceding two months.
