Vim IHC

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • Use for internal control to gauge general preservation of antigens in tissue (particularly useful in blocks processed at outside hospitals).1
  • Use to identify mesenchymal cells (lymphocytes are not consistently stained; some glial cells are positive)
  • Vim may also be expressed in rapidly dividing epithelial cells
  • Many carcinomas are CK and Vim positive:
    • Breast
    • Choroid plexus
    • Endometrium
    • Kidney
    • Lung
    • Ovary
    • Prostate
    • Salivary gland
    • Stomach
    • Thyroid
