Detection of Zika virus.

This test is intended for the qualitative detection of RNA from the Zika virus in serum and urine from individuals meeting CDC Zika virus clinical criteria and/or CDC Zika virus epidemiological criteria.

Serum:

Gold serum separator (SST) tube

Urine:

Screw cap plastic container (sterile)

Gold:

Immediatley following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

Serum:

1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
2. Spin
3. Transfer serum to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum
4. Freeze

Urine:

1. Transfer 3 mL of urine to an Aptima Urine Specimen Collection Kit (LabCorp)
2. Freeze

Serum:

Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp)

Urine:

Aptima Urine Specimen Collection Kit (LabCorp)

Red serum vial/tube - 5 mL

Red:

1. Allow sample to clot
2. Spin
3. Transfer serum to a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum, within two (2) hours of sample collection

Frozen (preferred)

Refrigerated - 5 days

Ambient - NO

• Specimen not shipped frozen or refrigerated
• Specimen greater than 5 days from collection at refrigerated temperature
• Whole blood
• Quantity not sufficient for analysis
• Gross specimen contamination
• Urine specimen in preservative other than Aptima® urine transport tube
• Leaking or broken tube
• Submission of only one of the two required specimen types
