• All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

• Synuclein is used to identify cytoplasmic inclusions in a number of neurodegenerative disorders collectively termed Synucleinopathies
• The most frequent of the Synucleinopathies is Parkinson's disease; synuclein-positive Lewy bodies are usually easily found within the pigmented neurons of the substantia nigra
• The immunohistochemical stain is most useful in other Synucleinopathies such as Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) or Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), where inclusions may be found in cortical neurons (DLB) or oligodendroglia (MSA)
• Lewy body variants of Alzheimer's disease (LBV) have also been characterized, and a small percentage of cognitively normal elderly will have occasional Lewy bodies
