Specimen
This test is for transplant patients only
Immediately after collection, mix tube thoroughly by gentle inversion, 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
Lavender (EDTA), 4 mL tube X 2
If the EDTA whole blood sample will not reach the testing laboratory within 72 hours, a plasma sample must be submitted:
- Spin within 72 hours of sample collection
- Transfer plasma to a False bottom plasma/serum transport vial/tube (AHL), labelled as EDTA plasma
OFF HOURS: Place EDTA tubes in the Send Outs refrigerator bucket for day shift to process.
Whole blood:
Refrigerated (preferred) – 72 hours
Ambient – 48 hours
EDTA plasma:
Refrigerated (preferred) – 12 days
Ambient – 72 hours
Frozen - 1 year
Freeze/thaw cycles - stable x3
- Whole blood samples not reaching the performing laboratory within 72 hours of collection
- Clotted specimens
