Immediatley following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gentle inverting 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
The high sensitivity of amplification by PCR requires the specimen to be processed in an environment in which contamination of the specimen by Ureaplasma DNA is not likely.
- Spin
- Transfer plasma to a Sterile screw cap vial/tube - 15mL (LabCorp), labelled as EDTA plasma, within 24 hours of specimen collection
Refrigerated (preferred) - 7 days
Frozen - 7 days
- PCR testing cannot be added on to a sample that has been opened and/or used for other testing. If the sample has already been used for testing, a new specimen will need to be collected.
