This test is used to gain objective evidence of reduced intraepidermal nerve fiber density (IENFD) to confirm a diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy.

• Order kit 1 - 2 weeks prior so it is received before procedure, ensuring fresh solutions and adequate time in case of shipping delays (eg, delay due to weather). Order online at CND Life Sciences
• A kit contains
  • 3 mm punch biopsy tool, forceps, scissors
  • 3 transport vials containing 5 mL of Zamboni fixative
  • Requisition and specimen labels
  • UPS shipping bag and label
• Do not use other fixatives or buffers

• Collect three (3) punch biopsies, 3 mm each, from the same side of the body
• Approved sites: left or right Posterior Cervical, Distal Thigh and Distal Leg

• Place each biopsy immediately into the transport vials (Zamboni fixative)
• Label each vial with:
  • Site
  • Patient name
  • Birth date
  • Side
