  • ABO discrepancies may require antibody identification and appropriate serologic or molecular testing to be performed as required. Each technique/panel needed will be charged separately.
• Rh
  
  • Rh negative results may reflex weak D testing

Lavender (EDTA), 4mL

• Avoid contamination with Wharton's jelly
• Immediately after collection, mix tube thoroughly by gentle inversion, 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
• Any combination of the cord ABO, Rh and/or DAT testing can be perfomed off of one (1) 4mL EDTA tube

Labeling instructions:
Must be identified as Cord blood

Newborn born at Allina Health must include the following ID information on the specimen tube:

1. Mother's LAST name followed by BB (for boy) or BG (for Girl) and Mother's first name.
2. For Multiples births, after the BB or BG, provide an additional identifier in order of birth: A, B, C, etc.
3. The collection date and time, and A# of the collector must be on the tube.

1. Label with Baby's first and last name, MRN or date of birth, and identify as cord blood.
2. The collection date and time and collector's initials must be on the tube.

Newborns do not have their own ABO antibodies, therefore ABO reverse type is not performed.
