- Avoid contamination with Wharton's jelly
- Immediately after collection, mix tube thoroughly by gentle inversion, 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
- Any combination of the cord ABO, Rh and/or DAT testing can be perfomed off of one (1) 4mL EDTA tube
Labeling instructions:
Must be identified as Cord blood
Newborn born at Allina Health must include the following ID information on the specimen tube:
- Mother's LAST name followed by BB (for boy) or BG (for Girl) and Mother's first name.
- For Multiples births, after the BB or BG, provide an additional identifier in order of birth: A, B, C, etc.
- The collection date and time, and A# of the collector must be on the tube.
For Reference Lab cord blood samples:
- Label with Baby's first and last name, MRN or date of birth, and identify as cord blood.
- The collection date and time and collector's initials must be on the tube.
