Evaluation of catecholamine-secreting tumors of the adrenal medulla (pheochromocytomas) and extra-adrenal sympathetic and parasympathetic paragangliomas.
Specimen
- No caffeine before or during collection
- Monamine oxidase inhibitors should be discontinued at least one week prior to beginning collection
Urine, 24-hr
10 mL aliquot of a 24-hr collection
2.5 mL aliquot of a 24-hr collection
- Measure and record total 24-hour volume
- Mix well
- Transfer a 10mL aliquot to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp)
24-hr urine collection container with HCl
HCl is an acceptable preservative if required for a concurrently collected assay.
