All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue.

  • This marker may be used to identify sebaceous neoplasms, including sebaceous carcinoma and sebaceoma (sensitivity is approximately 97%)
  • ADP will also stain milk fat globule membranes and lipid droplets, such as in adrenal gland (zona fasciculata), testes (Sertoli cells) and in lactating breast
  • Staining for ADP has been reported in eccrine apocrine carcinomas, xanthomatous lesions, and metastatic renal cell carcinomas (but the pattern is often granular which is considered negative for ADP

Specifications

  • Adipophilin (ADP) is a protein present on the surface of intracellular lipid droplets
  • ADP is present in sebaceous lesions (particularly well-differentiated tumors)

Staining patterns

  • Cytoplasmic membranous pattern of intracytoplasmic lipid globules
  • Granular staining is considered negative for ADP
