The gestational age for collection of the AFP tetra profile is 15.0 - 21.9 weeks for Downs syndrome, and 15.0 - 23.9 for Open Spina Bifida (optimal GA for Open Spina Bifida 16.0 - 18.9 weeks).

Specimens must be collected before amniocentesis.

Immediatley following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
