All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • Is used to identify helper T cells
  • This antibody is expressed on most mature T-cell lymphomas (except aggressive NK cell leukemia, extranodal NK cell lymphoma, gamma delta T-cell lymphoma, subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma and enteropathy-type T-cell lymphoma)
  • CD4 can be seen on some T-lymphoblastic lymphomas
  • This antibody is used in a panel with other T cell markers, to assess antigen expression relationships of benign and malignant T cell populations; unexpected expression and or loss of CD4 can occur in neoplasms
  • CD4 is often used with CD8 to evaluate helper/suppressor relationships of T lymphocytes

Specimen

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

Clinical and Interpretive info

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • The CD4 molecule interacts with the HLA class II during antigen recognition
  • CD4 antibody reacts with the CD4 protein associated with the helper subset of T lymphocytes
  • CD4 is present in the majority of thymocytes
  • CD4 also is present on various monocytic cells, such as Langerhans' cells, and other dendritic cells

Staining pattern

  • Cell surface membrane staining
