  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue
  
  • NeuN is used to identify neurons within brain parenchyma when infiltrating glial neoplasms obscure normal brain architecture, hence it can be useful to confirm brain infiltration
  • NeuN may also be useful in confirming neuronal phenotypes in biphenotypic CNS tumors like gangliogliomas
  • Unlike other neuronal markers (synaptophysin, neurofilament), NeuN does not stain the background neuropil
  • It may also be used to help assess cortical neuronal cytoarchitecture in suspected migrational disorders
