Toxoplasma gondii by IHC

12376 - Technical only, 12379 - Technical & interpretation

LAB12376
LAB12379

TOXO

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • In paraffin tissue, the antibody specifically and quantitatively labels toxo trophozoites
  • Identification of toxo is especially important in the immunocompromised host
  • Identification of toxo in the placenta correlates with congenital toxoplasmosis and can be associated with mental retardation and blindness

Specimen

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

Performance

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Mo - Fr

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

Clinical and Interpretive info

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • Toxoplasma is a sporozoan that lives as intracellular parasites in various tissues and organs of vertebrate animals and completes its life cycle in a single host
  • This protozoan can be transmitted via undercooked meat, contaminated soil, or by direct contact
  • The antibody is specific for toxo, and can identify the trophozoites in the bloodstream, in tissue, and in reticuloendothelial cells, leukocytes and in epithelial cells

 Staining pattern

  • Membranous
