LAB12376

Somatostatin receptor 2a

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • SSTR2a is a highly sensitive and specific marker for meningiomas. However, rare meningiomas may show no staining for this marker, and these tumors might be further studied with progesterone receptor and EMA
  • This marker can be used to differentiate spindle cell neoplasms of the central nervous system, in conjunction with S100 (positive in Schwannoma), SOX10 (positive in schwannoma), STAT6 (positive in hemangiopericytoma/solitary fibrous tumor; HPC/SFT), progesterone receptors (positive in meningiomas and some carcinomas), and CD34 (variably positive in HPC/SFT)
  • Positive staining is also seen in pancreatic islets, gastric endocrine cells, and vessels

Clinical and Interpretive info

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • SSTR2a is encoded by the SSTR2 gene and is a transmembrane protein present in cerebrum and kidney.
  • This marker is highly expressed by meningiomas

Staining pattern

  • Strong diffuse membranous and cytoplasmic staining
