A steady state, trough (pre-dose) sample is generally accepted as most consistent for therapeutic drug monitoring of Lamotrigine.

The target steady state trough range for seizure control is 3.0 - 15.0 µg/mL.
Concentrations that exceed 15 µg/mL may contribute to adverse effects. Patient response varies widely, particularly with co-medications and/or compromised renal function.
