Schistosomiasis (bilharziasis) is an endemic tropical parasitic disease prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, South America and the Far East. In developed countries Schistosomiasis is seen in travelers returning from endemic areas. The disease causes substantial morbidity and mortality.

  1. Allow to clot
  2. Spin and separate serum from cells within 2 hours
  3. Aliquot 1.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of serum into a Screw-cap polypropylene frozen transport vial/tube - 4mL (LabCorp)
  4. Freeze the sample at -20 °C.

    To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, submit a separate frozen aliquot for each test requested.
