HEV IgM

  • Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) IgM is transmitted from oral exposure to HEV-contaminated fecal material
  • HEV is more prevalent in developing countries where clean water and sanitation are not commonplace
  • HEV antibody testing is important in cases where other hepatitis causes have been excluded, since HEV infection is clinically indistinguishable from other types of acute viral hepatitis
  • HEV IgM antibodies are normally present 1-4 weeks post-infection
