Detection of carbapenem resistant organisms (CROs) in human rectal swab specimens.
Mutations or polymorphisms in primer or probe binding regions may affect detection of current, new or unknown KPC, NDM, VIM, OXA-48, and IMP variants, resulting in a false negative result.
As the detection of KPC, NDM, VIM, OXA-48, and IMP gene sequences is dependent on the number of organisms present in the sample, reliable results are dependent on proper sample handling and storage.
