  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • SATB2 can be used in the panel (CK7/CK20/CDX2/CADH17) For use in cancer of unknown primary to differentiate colorectal carcinoma from upper gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary origin
  • SATB2 can be used differentiate help differentiate ovarian metastasis from colorectal and appendiceal sites from other metastatic sites (upper GI and pancreatobiliary and endocervical)
  • SATB2 can be used differentiate help differentiate ovarian metastasis from colorectal and appendiceal origin from primary ovarian mucinous and ovarian endometrioid tumors
  • SATB2 is positive in 80-97% of primary and metastatic colorectal adenocarcinomas and colonic medullary carcinomas., which can be negative for CK20 and CDX21
  • In one study of ovarian metastases of extra ovarian origin, SATB2 was expressed by 75% of colorectal adenocarcinomas, 80% of low grade appendiceal neoplasms and 100% of high grade appendiceal adenocarcinomas2
  • A minority of ovarian mucinous tumors with teratomatous elements will demonstrates SATB2 positivity in the epithelium 2
  • SATB2 positivity can be seen in a minority of carcinomas of upper GI, pancreatobiliary, pulmonary and urothelial origin and can also be seen in a minority of carcinoid tumors
  • SATB2 is positive in a majority of osteosarcomas

Specifications

SATB2 is a DNA binding protein involved in the regulation of transcription and chromatin remodeling in osteoblastic and neuronal differentiation and is involved in skeletal development.

Staining pattern

  • Nuclear staining only
  • Positive staining occurs in normal colonic and rectal epithelium, normal appendix, neurons in the frontal cortex and hippocampus, normal and neoplastic osteoblastic tissues. Gynecologic tissues (ovarian, endometrium, cervical) are negative. Weak positivity can be seen in the epididymis, seminiferous tubules and in some lymphoid cells
