High concentrations of gadolinium and iodine are known to interfere with most metals tests. If gadolinium- or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered, a specimen should not be collected for 96 hours.

Refrigerate specimen within 4 hours of completion of 24-hour collection.

How to collect a 24-hr urine sample

  
  1. Measure and record the total collection volume
  2. Mix well
  3. Transfer a 10mL aliquot (minimum 0.5 mL) of the 24 hour collection to a Urine transport vial/tube - 10mL (Mayo T068)
