May aid in the diagnosis of Chikungunya viral infection during acute phase of disease (>5 days after symptom onset). Testing should also be considered for other arthropod-borne viruses with similar symptomology based on clinical presentation and travel history.

Immediately following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times
- Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
- Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
- Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum

- Spin within two (2) hours of collection
- Transfer the plasma to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labeled as Heparin or EDTA plasma
Refrigerated (preferred) - 2 weeks
Ambient - 48 hours

avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles
- Contaminated specimen
