This procedure is used for the differentiation between neutral and acidic mucosubstances. Acidic mucosubstances are stained with the Alcian blue technique at a pH of 2.5 while the neutral mucosubstances are stained with the PAS reaction.

Prepare a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block
FFPE tissue block
Prepare two (2) 4 micron thick section unstained slides from an FFPE tissue block
Slides in a Slide holder - 5 specimen
