This test is used for the measurement of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in serum.

  

High serum biotin concentrations in patients taking biotin supplements may cause an interference in this assay. Patients may be advised to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to sample collection.

Immediatley following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
  

Gold serum separator (SST) tube

  
  
  1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
  3. Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum
