HTLV-1 infections can be confirmed and differentiated from HTLV-2 infections by using highly purified recombinant proteins or synthetic peptides which are either type common or type specific

  

This test is not for screening purposes and should be used as supplementary testing for patients previously identified as reactive for antibodies to HTLV.

Immediately following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

  

Gold:

  1. Allow sample to clot

  2. Spin within 2 hours of sample collection

Red:

  1. Allow sample to clot

  2. Spin within 2 hours of sample collection

  3. Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled serum

  1. Spin within 2 hours of sample collection
