HMGCR Abs (3-Hydroxy-3-Methylglutaryl-Coenzyme A Reductase) are associated with necrotizing myopathy that is commonly related to statin exposure
1. Not all idiopathic inflammatory myopathy patients are positive for HMGCR antibodies.
2. Results of this assay should be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other serological tests.
3. Failure to adequately resuspend the HMGCR coated beads may yield lower values than if the beads are properly re-suspended.
4. The performance characteristics of this assay have not been established for matrices other than serum.
Immediatley following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times
- Allow specimen to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
- Spin within one (1) hour of specimen collection
- Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum
Refrigerated (preferred) - 14 days
Ambient - 48 hours
Frozen - 14 days
Freeze/thaw cycles - stable x3
- Grossly hemolyzed specimen
- Bacterial contamination
- Lipemic or Icteric specimen
