Gold serum separator (SST) tube

• Only collect samples Mo – Th
• Immediately following collection, mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

1. Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
2. Spin within 45 minutes of sample collection
3. Transfer serum to a Transfer vial/tube with cap - 12mL (LabCorp), labelled as serum

Only send out specimens on Mo – Th; No Fridays, weekends or holidays.

• Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic specimens
• Cacterially contaminated specimens cannot be tested

Pregnant patients (>16 weeks gestation):

• IgG - Dye test
• IgM -  ELISA
• Avidity 

Pregnant patients (≤16 weeks gestation):

• IgG - Dye test
• gM - ELISA
• AC/HS

IgG (Dye test):

Negative: < 1:16

Positive:   > 1:16

IgM ELISA: 

Negative:  0.0 - 1.6

Equivocal: 1.7 - 1.9

Positive:  >2.0 (serum)

Avidity: 

Reference range: high avidity excludes infection within the previous 4 months
