NSE

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • May be useful in a panel for neuroendocrine tumors
  • Other more specific neuroendocrine markers include chromogranin, Synaptophysin, and Leu-7
  • Infrequent positive staining in many non-neuroendocrine tumors has been identified with NSE due to cross-reactivity

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Mo - Fr

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • NSE is an isoenzyme of the glycolytic enzyme enolase that is expressed primarily in neurons and neuroendocrine tissues
  • NSE is also expressed in platelets, T-lymphocytes, megakaryocytes, striated and smooth muscle cells
