Leucocyte common antigen
LCA

All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • CD45 labels normal and neoplastic B and T lymphocytes; approximately 95% of B cell NHL and 85% of T cell NHL are positive for CD45
  • Myeloid cells (and plasma cells) are weakly positive or negative for LCA
  • Macrophages/histiocytes are usually negative for CD45
  • Non-hematopoietic cells (benign and malignant) are negative for LCA
  • CD45 reactivity may be weak or absent in plasmacytomas and anaplastic large cell lymphomas

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Mo - Fr

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • LCA reacts with a family of 5 glycoproteins present on the surface of the majority of leukocytes

Staining pattern

  • Cell surface membrane (sometimes also in cytoplasm)
