Serum antibodies to adrenal cortical cells, usually of all three zones, are seen in 60% of patients with idiopathic Addison disease. They are present in only 5% to 17% of patients with tuberculous, fungal, or metastatic destruction of the adrenals, and in 38% of unclassified cases. Antiadrenal antibodies are also present in such apparently unrelated processes as idiopathic hypoparathyroidism (28% of cases) and Hashimoto disease (7%).
