Useful for:

Myogenin has been detected in the majority of routinely processed rhabdomyosarcomas and Wilms tumors
Myogenin is useful in a panel of immunostains (or frozen and/or paraffin sections) to evaluate small blue round cell tumors and poorly differentiated sarcomas
No immunoreactivity has been observed in Ewing's sarcoma/pPNET or in neuroblastomas
Myogenin will stain the nuclei of myoblasts from human fetal limbs, however no reactivity is observed in adult skeletal muscle¹
Myogenin has not stained leiomyosarcoma, liposarcoma, alveolar soft part sarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, synovial sarcoma and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in the small number of reported cases ²

There genes encode transcription factors essential for muscle development
Expression of Myogenin is restricted to cells of skeletal muscle origin
Nuclear expression of myogenin is inversely related to the degree of cellular differentiation of rhabdomyosarcoma tumor cells¹
