• Alcohol swabs must not be used for disinfection.
  • Collection site should be prepped with an alternate disinfectant prior to collection.
• Immediatley following collection, mix sample by inverting 8 - 10 times to prevent clotting

Dk green heparin (Li or Na), no gel

Lavender (EDTA), 4mL

Gold serum separator (SST) tube

Red serum vial/tube, 5 mL

Lt green plasma separator (PST)

Dk green/Lavender/Lt green:

Immediatley following collection, mix sample by inverting 8 - 10 times to prevent clotting.

Gold:

Immediately following collection, thoroughly mix sample by gently inverting 5 times

Gold:

1.  Allow sample to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes
2.  Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection

Red:

1. Allow sample to clot
2. Spin within two (2) hours of sample collection
3. Transfer serum to a False bottom plasma/serum transport vial/tube (AHL), labelled as serum

Dk green heparin (Na or Li hep), no gel

Refrigerated (preferred) - 48 hours

Ambient - 8 hours

Allina Health Hospitals and any affiliate sites collecting samples for this test should send them STAT, directly to HCMC, for testing. Sending STAT specimens direct to HCMC
