Elevated circulating concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) may be observed in a variety of disease states, especially those associated with  angiogenesis. Elevated concentrations of VEGF must be interpreted within the clinical context of the patient.

For patients with a diagnosis of POEMS syndrome.

  • Immediately following collection, mix sample thoroughly by gentle inverting 8 - 10 times, to prevent clotting
  • Place the tube on wet ice
  
  1. Centrifuge at 1500 x g for 10 minutes
  2. Transfer plasma to a Screw cap transfer vial/tube (Mayo), labelled as EDTA plasma
  3. Freeze specimen within 2 hours
