This assay is a quantitative method for measuring the percentage concentration of Hemoglobin A_1C (HbA_1C) in blood. The measurement of Hemoglobin A_1C concentration is recommended for monitoring the long-term blood glucose of persons with diabetes.

Hemoglobin A_1C is formed by the non-enzymatic glycation of the N-terminus of the Beta-chain of Hemoglobin A_O. The level of Hemoglobin A_1c is proportional to the level of glucose the blood over a period of approximately two months. Hgb A_1C is accepted as an indicator of the mean daily blood glucose concentration of the preceding two months.
