Negative

This test is a screening procedure only and does not distinguish between Sickle Cell Disease (S/S) and Sickle Cell Trait (A/S). All positive or weak positive results should be further evaluated with hemoglobin electrophoresis. False negative results can occur with low levels of HbS (neonates, recent transfusion, congenitally low HbS, and with Hgb levels ≤ 8 g/dL). False positive results may be seen with immunoglobulin interference (multiple myeloma, cryoglobulinemia).
