LAB12376
LAB12379

HHV8

  • All IHC stains will include a positive control tissue

  • HHV8 identifies a Herpes associated antigen found in Kaposi's sarcoma; HHV8 can be identified in the subcapsular spindle cell proliferations of lymph nodes, in early intranodal KS
  • HHV8 is found in endothelial cells in Castleman's disease (in mantle zone large immunoblastic B cells)
  • HHV8 is found in Primary effusion lymphomas (HIV related as well as in patients without HIV-induced immunodeficiency), and has also been reported in other HIV related lymphomas

Tissue

Submit a formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue

Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue block

FFPE tissue section mounted on a charged, unstained slide

Ambient (preferred)

  • Unlabeled/mislabeled block
  • Insufficient tissue
  • Slides broken beyond repair

AHL - Immunohistochemistry

Mo - Fr

1 - 2 days

Immunohistochemical staining and microscopic examination

If requested, an interpretive report will be provided

Specifications

  • Recognizes a recombinant protein corresponding to a portion of the C-terminus of the latent nuclear antigen-1 molecule of HHV8
  • HHV8 is used in the diagnosis of three malignancies, due to the association with HHV8 infection (casual agent): Kaposi's sarcoma (endemic, classic, and AIDS-related), primary effusion lymphoma, and some plasma cell forms of multicentric Castleman's disease

Staining pattern

  • Nuclear, sometimes with a speckled pattern
