Sample must be spun and the serum separated and placed in plastic transfer vial within 6 hours of collection.

  1. After clotting, spin for 20 minutes
  2. Transfer a minimum of 1.2mL serum each into two separate Transfer vial/tube for small volume specimens **Preferred: Serum should be frozen immediately, but will be accepted if stored at 2 - 8°C and frozen within 24 hours of collection.
  3. If requesting a Genotype at same time, an additional SST tube should be drawn. Separate and freeze serum within 4 hours of collection in a separate Screw Cap Transfer Vial.

If a Hepatitis C antibody with reflex (527/86803.2) is ordered, it is not necessary to order this assay, as any low positive result for the Hepatitis C antibody will automatically reflex to an HCV RNA (2242) at an additional charge.
